Up until 2008, Brighton, despite all its quirkiness, was lacking a proper mountain biking event. That year, the Garry Fisher G2 Revolver rolled into town and that all changed. The event was only a one off, but went down so well, a group of riders went out of their way to recreate what that event captured; inclusivity, fun, XC racing without egos. Six hours of race action, ending with a party on the beach. And so the Brighton Big Dog was born.
It’s back again for 2018, on August 11th to be precise. The race utilises the ancient woodland around Stamner Park, and promises to be a blast. It has featured in The Guardian's Top 5 cycle events, in WhatMTB's Top 10 Must Ride events, in Bike Magic's Top 6 events, who regarded it "an event every mountain biker should do". If these comments are anything to go by, it sits somewhere on the ‘unmissable’ end of the spectrum. And what's great is its local!
